  1. On most international/domestic flights, they do have a radio and a headphone jack on the side of he armrest which you can listen to for free, indefinitely. Some flights even have TVs on the back of the seat in front of you, where they will display some sort of in-flight entertainment, like a movie, and sometimes even television channels; you have to tune the headphones to a certain station to listen. Most of the flights let you borrow a headset for the duration of the flight, but it's much more comfortable and convenient to bring your own pair.

  2. You can buy converters from a standard headphone jack to an airline jack at many electronics and travel stores.

The music is not radio - it is pre-recorded programmes.  Most airlines have around 10 programmes - easy listening, rock, comedy, classical etc etc.  Individual programmes last about 90 minutes, so if you are on a long flight there is a bit of repetition.  They also rotate the programmes once a month, so if you do a few flights on the same airline in a month you will get the same stuff.

Airline headphones are c**p, so if you fly a lot I recommend noise reducing headphones which cut out a lot of the ambient aircraft noise as well as being better quality to start with.

  3. Well,  know that If you fly United Airlines, they have an earphone jack on the armrest and buttons to let you scroll through several different satellite radio stations. They supply headphones or you can use your own. I imagine it's the same on lots of planes. Kept me entertained for a while on some of my flights this summer =)

  4. On some airlines there are but on Delta the jack you use for the headphones has two prongs and doesn't fit a regular headset-they make you buy one for $3.00.  Bring your headphones but be prepared to buy some if they don't fit (1-5 dollars depending on the airline.)

  5. if you are traveling with airtran then yes but anywhere else you have to pay! So i would take headphones!
