  1. Texas has a very troubled system.

  2. To adopt a (step) child, you must get a homestudy just like in a traditional adoption.  Go to "Adoptions" in the phone book for a local agency or Social Worker to do the homestudy.  They are usually about $500-$900.  They will look at all the same factors as an homestudy, plus the relationship between your husband and your sons.  Then you must hire an attorney, also like more traditional adoptions.  An attorney who specializes in adoption may be your best bet for experience (AAAA Adoption Attorney).  They will charge $1000-$3000.

  3. David Cole in Dallas is an EXCELLENT lawyer, he primarily does adoptions (we've used him twice for surrogacy arrangements). We are going to use him again for the termination of my daughter's fathers rights and do a step-parent adoption. They said with no fight from her "dad" it would be about $1900 in all.

  4. I am going throught this now with my exwife and new wife.  If you have good documentation(missed visits, cps records, etc) you should be able to do this very easily. Or do what we are doing Paying Her Off.  the x see's the children as $$$$. They are her BMW payment in her eyes. So we figured 1100.00 per month for 16 yr was around 212,000.00 we gave her a one time lump sum of 25000.00 to hand them over, she countered for 50k so now we have to work the details. She will have to sign a contract.  What she doesnt know is this type of information shown in the courts here in DFW will "hang" her and we will get the kids for court cost and attorney fee's.  I know its mean but those are my kids
