I wanted to post a question that everyone could comment on... Which is LOUDER? 2-12" subs versus 4-10" subs. I know there are a lot of variables. Let xmaxx be the only variable with the 10" having an xmaxx of say,13mm and the 12" having an xmaxx of say, 16mm. Now lets say that everything else is IDENTICAL: they are in identical vehicles, both made by the same manufacturer, both in sealed enclosures ( both built to spec), and both being ran by identical 1000 watt rms amps with identical size wire. Can two twelves DOMINATE four tens... or will the 10's beat the 12's to the punch every time, play LOUDER, and/or hit HARDER. EVERYONE, which is the *SUPREME* sub???

  1. that depends on the make beacause there are some 10'' that can blow away ssome12''

  2. the tens.....3 tens could beat 2 12s

  3. 4-10's easy.  I'd be willing to put my money 3-10's could take 2-12's too under these conditions.

How about 4-8's to 2-12's?  There's something to ponder...

  4. well first of off, most 10's are within 50 watts lower then 12's but are far more better because they are much tighter, and have a clearer bass sound then a 12 but a 12 has a longer throw for the most part. but 100% for sure no way could 2 12's hit harder then 4 10's it's impossible unless you went low end 10s and high end 12s.

  5. this is really dependent. in overall, it depends only on displacement volume of the all cones when moving in some constatnt frequncy - Xmax * cones surface area.

in fact, many factors are too much importand, and you can have one 15" beating two 15" or one 18" easily!

you have to know whats the place, whats the box (can have acoustic impedance like horn loaded speaker box) whats the tuning etc.  You even cannot compare different speaker diameters from the same manufacturer. Maybe, 12" will beat more under 40Hz, and 10s will crash your head somewhere around 60Hz.

so no answer for question like this. You have to know many details.
