Does cricket need another 20-20 league, Australia thinks so?

There's been talk that Australia plans to host its own version of the Indian Premier League as early as the 2009-10 season.

Does cricket need another 20-20 league? Is 20-20 making a changing impact on cricket, cricket wise and money wise? What are your thaughts?

  1. There is no doubt in my mind that it will happen ... BUT it will only happen when Fox Sports can secure the rights for it.  You can bet that right now the media barons are positioning themselves all over the place with strategies to edge free tv out of cricket.  20-20 is one vehicle by which they can do it.

As far as inviting icon Indians, I think you'll see like World Series when it started that lots of international cricketers will be in on the action.  Remember the Australia vs the World XI where they wore motorbike helmets to bat!!

EDIT: To Newfy - that's my point.  Only Murdoch can offer enough money to push some (free to air) test cricket aside and make room for a 20-20 tournament.  The day it happens no-one in the world will be able to watch free to air cricket anymore within 12 months.  Tests will have to follow onto Fox or other Pay TV.  India, Australia and England will finally be just like the US where only Pay TV shows any decent live sport.

  2. NO they left it too late theres not enough days in the year to fit it all in + test cricket + ODIs +domestic crkt + domestic 20/20+ IPL

    .

  3. The T20 format of the game is a crowd puller , where most of the matches turn out to be interesting.lots of countries blamed of Cricket being slow...

and this is one of the reason why Cricket isn't as famous as soccer.

but now, with T20, Cricket is as interesting as Soccer...

i believe these leagues would click.

  4. well Indian sponsorers are cash rich, I don t think Aussie experiment with T20 cricket will be as successful as Indian version.  Further can you pull crowds for the game is a big ? India had 2 competition, ICL was a failure because it did not have official backing.  However there will be disappointed and disgruntled sponsorers which is a downer.  If at all aussies have to successful they have to rope in Indian sponsorers, who have missed the bus.

  5. It could well happen, but what worries me, is that some of our traditional fixtures will have to make way to accomodate it. I would hate to see that happen.

  6. No friggin way...I hope it never rubs off over here, and to that number above me you got high hopes of us gettin Indian over here..Aussie's want 1 thing to themselves in cricket,oh yeah hold on we got plenty that the Indians dont have in cricket....

  7. no i dont think so

as it is the players complain that they are playing too much cricket so the more of these leagues there are something else has to go and ifor one dont want to risk loosing any other of the forms
