Why wouldn't it be. I often do it to get away form all the attention and the crowd the first day. People can be sooo bad sometimes. It is fine, of course.

You can't just skip school randomly! Yea, it would be weird because you wouldn't know anyone (if you were starting at a new school) and you learn all the info about the school on the first day.

well um i wouldnt but if but if you have to then that would be ok... cuz like if you dont start the first day then ur concidered the "new kid"  soo i wouldnt

I mean if you have something important to do that you have to miss the first day, then it wouldn't be that big of a deal to start the next day.  For example, if you have to go to court or an important appointment, just let the school know.  I missed the first week of classes my second year of college, and it didn't matter that much.  

Teachers in high-school and college just hand out the syllabus on the first day anyway.

Go if you can, but if you can't let your teachers know and ask another student (if you know any in the classes) to get a syllabus or tell you what you missed.  

Make sure to go up to your teachers before class starts (get there early) and say "I apologize that I missed last time because blah blah blah, may I have a syllabus/Suzie Q told me what I missed, is there anything else I should know.

Not weird, just something to work with.
