how to compute group points in soccer

Question

I am just some one's wife sitting through the World Cup. I keep the food coming, and I fill in the brackets. Just wondering how the group points are figured in determining 1st place and Runner Up. Husband won't tell me.

A win = 3 points

A draw = 1 point.

Loss = 0 points

If teams are tied on points, it goes down to who has the better goal difference. If they have the same goal difference it goes down who has scored the most goals.
