Are there cheap hostels or cheap guest-houses to stay in....whats the food-beer prices like?

no, my parents went there for a weekend break and said everything was really quite cheap

there are tons of Sardinians that rent out beach apartments that are quite affordable.  Just don't expect to go last minute in August, that's when everything is booked up usually 6 months in advance.

The beaches are worth it all.
