(Lack of capabilities & talents or pure laziness?)

Winning the American Idol, Winning Seven Gold Medals and becoming a Nobel Prize Winner for an invention in the medical field. Imaging how amazing if one person can achieve these tasks at his/her young age.

But there were people like that in history (not exactly matching the above description); like :

Leonardo da Vinci

Michelangelo

Can you name any woman that have achieved to the peek levels in several different fields/subject areas? (there can be many of them..I like to know who)

  1. There are plenty of brilliant women who I simply revere and many of whom I work with.  They don't really seek publicity, but their work is highly regarded amongst their peers and their colleagues, both male and female.  Many sit on International Boards in any number of disciplines in the pure and applied Natural Sciences (including Medicine).  You don't hear their names often, and frankly I'm not sure why many of these brilliant women haven't received much attention for the work they do; but I can assure you that without their work, we'd be in dire straights.

Here's a woman who is regarded as a pioneer in Psoriasis Research and has been heavily involved with the introduction of novel pharmaceuticals (monoclonal ab.) for the treatment of psoriasis, a common disease throughout the world.  You may not know her name, but I can assure you that I do, and those in my field hold her in the highest regard.  If I can achieve 1/100th of what she has in her career, I'd be astounded.  She's an absolute authority in her field and any institution will pay absurd amounts of money to simply have her on the academic staff just for advancing the institution's street cred.

    Alice Bendix Gottlieb, MD, PhD

You can find the page to her lab at Tufts University Medical School.

  2. Maria Sibylla Merian-accomplished emtomologist and painter

Sally Ride-first American woman in space, Professor of Physics at Stanford, owns a pulishing company

Gertrude Belle Elion-patented 45 different drugs, including cancer and AIDS medication. The first woman admitted to the National Inventors Hall of Fame.  Even more amazing considering that she didn't finish her doctorate.  She said that her work was too important, and that she didn't want to take time off to get her degree.

The thing about Da Vinci and Michelangelo is that they are icons.  However, women in that day and age weren't given serious consideration as artists or scientists.  You have to look a bit closer to modern times to find women who have truly impacted society.  Heck, just look at Oprah.  Do you think that she would have gotten a fair shake on American T.V. in 1960?
