The first one is kind of shaped as the saddle, and the second one is square. Does shape make a difference?http://www.horseloverz.com/All-Purpose-c... Also, is a plain saddle mat fine, or should i get one of the fancy shock absorber, cooling system whatever type?

If you have any recomondations please let me know. Lastly my favorite colors are blue and purple. If you could find any good mats that would be great! -thanks alot

  1. The one shaped like a saddle is for an English saddle, and is required for showing in competition. It is usually white fluffy material. Also, the thinner square shaped pads are called baby pads and are used under English saddle pads. They are used so that you dont need to wash your show pad as much. You can have fun with these ones. You can monogram them or put your horses name on it. You can line them with ribbon too! (my favorite). the link didnt work so i couldnt tell exactly what you meant but if it is a thick square pad it is used under western saddles.

  2. The one that is shaped like a saddle is an English saddle pad and the square rectangle one is for western style riding.

  3. Shape makes a difference if you are showing.  Square is for Western, and also Dressage and Eventing.  Shaped is more for Hunter Jumper.  If its just pleasure riding anything is fine.  I like the Merino wool pads, but they are expensive.  You don't really need all the fancy foam and gels if your saddle fits properly.  The plain quilted cotton is fine.
