Forgot to mention, you'd have to run title back to see if the oil & gas rights were ever severed to see who owns them..

You didn't mention the state the mineral interest is in. Most all states require the conveyed interest to be specific, therefor no, the oil & gas rights did not convey to you since they were not mentioned in the deed.
