Have they ever been good since the late 80's and early 90's?

Just given you a hard time. They are an up and coming team, while many would not believe that they will see in a few years.

I say their defense will rank in the middle of the pack this year. Nothing great but nothing horrible either. Patrick Willis is a beast.

Niners fan,I think they will do good if we SCORE SOME POINTS.The best d in football will suck if the offense can not move the ball.Football players get tired and 3 hours on the field everygame because we can not score sucks.I think we have a good team but need a qb to step up.I think smith is the worst qb we have.I think sullevin is better so that a start.Good luck to us all.

they are on the low side of the middle of the pack in my beliefs.  They have a decent front four but that is where things taper off.  Some people will disagree with me and say they have an underrated lb core but they do have some problems as well.

Yes sir!! the addition of Takeo Spikes along with Manny Lawson, and the stud Patrick Willis, will produce one of the best linebacking core in the NFC. The secondary, led by 80 million dollar man Nate Clements should be solid.
