If you are in the store and haven't taken the product out of the box/the tag is still on it, and you have the money in your pocket, or debit/credit cards, there is the possibility that you can get off. This helps to prove that you had the intention of paying for the product. A lot of the time the security guards/secret shoppers will wait until you have left the store because this just gives them more evidence against you.
