I know sleeve numbers are usually they like 4'' tall but I don't know the width. 4" by what? I'm asking this because I have a jersey that has a number 9 screen printed on back, It's 8'' by 5'' wide and looks horrible. I want to cover It with a tackle twill number. I know also, usually numbers are 12'' on back, (NHL) this one happens to be 8'' by 5", I'm not sure if it would work though, If I covered it with a 12" sized number. I'm wondering would 4" numbers look right with my existing back number, (8" by 5" wide) If I just decide to just go with the same size I already have would It have the right proportions? or would a smaller sized sleeve number look better? I'm sorry I'm trying to explain the best I can, I would appreciate any help I can get.

  1. It depends on the Font. Also, covering a number probably won't work if it's a different font.

And the 4'' numbers on the sleeves are different then the ones on the back. You don't compare them for proportion, they're seen independently.

And really, it doesn't matter if it's perfect. If you're doing this for display, buy a new jersey to start with and get it done by a sport shop. If you're doing this to play, nobody will care.
