  1. It's so sad.  I visited Trinidad with some students two years ago and we had a wonderful time. The roti was very delicious, the Steel band calypso Music in Sanando was out of the world and you have the greatest cricketer in the world.

  2. First of all.  re$h take that pic down.  That making meh feel to run back to Trini and find ah 'oman fast fast fast. looooooooooosssssssshhhh.  Gurl yuh sweet...

    Anyway, now to the question.

Doh blame it on Gansta music

    Doh blame it on MTV

    Doh blame it on Cable

Doh blame it on the friends

    Blame the F-ing Parents

For some reason everybody 'fraid to fling ah belt these days.  Julien, Frigg I know for sure, for sure the two ah all yuh know what I talking 'bout.

People you have young ones in hospital because they to hyper and need meds, and PRNs.

Julien wha yuh mother use to do when you to Hyper?  Yuh use to get the eye first, right? Then if yuh still doh listen the last thing yuh remember was being at the neighbour house running thro she joinroom and now yuh waking up in yuh bed?  That is becase mammy swing ah hand and knock yuh out.  Ah bet yuh never do that again?

I does see some children in dey teens giving back chat to they mother. People I in my 30's and me raise my voice to Joyce?!  All yuh mad. I at least want to see meh 40's.

Here wha go on. If you see the Sixth Sense "Swing ah way Meryl. Swing ah way!"

That is what we need today..

  3. Yes Re$h I have to agree with ur for that one....No trobles to any one that disagree but it is tru....All demppl singing about is day...weed and using a hole set ah cuss and thing...

Is not only d music is d movies tooo...(some)

and ppl wondering y it have sooo much ah crime and violence in trinidad and tobago....

  4. Music can have an influence on an individual, but IT'S THE PARENTS job/responsibility to raise their kids the right way.  If there is no structure in the household, how are kids suppose to learn what's right from wrong?

If music is causing the youth dem to do crime, then the parents should monitor exactly what the kids are listening to.

I don't know how the laws are in Trinidad, but if the music is banned, don't you think people will still find a way to access the "gangsta" music?  With technology today, you don't have to go out and buy music, it can simply be downloaded.

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but  has their ever been a curfew enforced?  I ask because if not, then if a curfew was to be enforced, do you (anyone) think crime would go down?

  5. I think it contributes. Now eh like long time eh. Listen to the music 10 yrs ago.... nothing like today. Go back to the years of gun mouth pants, big shirt collar, pointy tip shoes, yuh hair slick down and tell me how the youths were dressing 30-40 yrs ago?  They were influenced by the singers like Elvis, Frankie Avalon, Chuck Berry and others.

Youths today look up to the gangsta-rap artist like he is the best thing next to slice bread. Look at how the rap artists dress and look at the youts today. You eh have to turn yuh head too far.

I think the contents of gangsta rap definitely influence the young people today. They sing - well rap that woman is hoe!

No respect for  the police; if you come on my side ah town is bullets go fly because you cyar invade my turf and stuff like dah!!!

So yes; rap-gangsta music has an influence.

  6. The music industry is causing some of the musicians to put negative things in their songs sometimes, and sometimes the musicians do it without the music industry; they figure since it sells; they will do it, same here in jamaica, all around the caribbean violent music is ruining ours youths; I have three friends from trinidad and what a beautiful place trinidad is, I would like to travel to trinidad.  Not all of american culture but some of american culture has been americanizing the caribbean; not all rap or hip hop is bad, but not all is good neither. The people who make the money off the violence and violent music, they don't care if people like you and I get hurt; they care about money more than they care about their fellow human-being. They are lost in this delusion, casting away what is true- spirit, love is true spirit. They are thorns that bind us, bleeding our life away, like a leech devouring the life essence. These are the true evils that are void of love, for their love sleeps, as the rocks that lay beneath the sea, they rise not for their own weight escape not the waters that they are immersed in. " It is the words that are within the music that stimulate negative essence, not the musical style itself, but! yes! this is a big problem. ///Everything is planned by the wicked people, to make money from evil. Part of me! was never born, and yet part of me was, if one knows that part of the self was not born, only the part of self that is, can be destroyed, but knowing that the self that is born; is to live in the unborn, know this that one will never die, for this flesh passes. Originally! part of you and I the breath of life, was always, and the other part was free from this stain of the spirit. Know this knowledge to be sacred, the breath of life was never born, but blown into us, the first, and infused into the being, when you feel love what you are feeling is spirit. (((((THIS MUSIC IS A MODIFICATION OF WHAT WAS GOOD, MODIFIED TO CREATE EVIL AND TO CREATE MATERIAL ATTACHMENT FOR PROFITS, AND MONEY, IT FEEDS GREED, NOT ALL OF IT BUT MOST OF IT.)))). "I SEND PEACE AND LOVE TO TO YOU AND ALL PEOPLE"

  7. is a down right breakdown of morals and the fact that parents are NOT doing any PARENTING.

We wish to blame everyone else when things go wrong. Who is buying the music for the children ?

    --------------------------------------...

TS boy de good Lord know why meh mudder blaze meh tail AND AH LOVE she fu dat

again yuh rite on de ball dey who vex lorse

  8. For the last 60 years, its NEVER been a good idea to use POPULAR MUSIC to raise your children.

Please consider the fact the the music (recording industry) industry has only been around since the twenties (less than 80 years really). Even in its early years, the 'love' songs that played where considered too 'explicit' for children.

Parents need to step up to the plate. Thier job is to guide children about the information that hits them everyday. 4 year olds are hearing about condoms and guns romance and murder. You just cant hide it.

The WORST thing you can do is let a child be learning about these things from other corrupted kids or from the WRONG role models.

Movado can't teach my 5-year old nephew ANYTHING about guns. All mavado can do is sing a catchy hook.

I dare say that buying a toy gun can be more dangerous than a movado song.

  9. no i am not agree because i mean music have nothing to do with crime in Trinidad & Tobago.

  10. Although the music does have an impact on impressionable minds, here the family comes in and is required to identify the habits and behavioural patterns of the individual.

its not just gangsta music either- what about soca, R&B, rock and the list can go on

All these songs have lyrics and subliminal messages that destroy the very moral fabric of an individualand society at large.

any behaviour deviating from the 'norm' must be addressed whether at home or in conjunction with a professional counselor.

long time when my deviant behaviour became evident (form 2 when yuh start to follow friends) all my mother had to do was have a lil one on one with me and i was back on track.

its more than music its- friends, family situatuions, other media influence, too much free time to 'lime', dress code and bending the rules to go with the times, and most importantly the individuals concept of life and living.

then we need to go back to the warning and reprimand:

first you get the eye (from mommy)

then the threat (when yuh see yuh father come home eh!)

then she will go for the whip and rest it on the table

no need to go further we all know what comes next

  11. i think it has an impact on youth

cuz at a certain age media and music has a great impact because at this age, we develop our moral and values system.

so if they believe in this gangsta mentality it could affect the way they view and react to evryday situations.

Having sed tht, parents have a greater impact on kids, and parents need to show kids right from wrong, not saying parents ban them from music, but teach them the right things to look for in music, people, themes and in general life

    ______________________________________...

parents expect the television music and the streets to teach their kids the ways of life, and when they turn out to be killers, thieves or in some cases politicians, they wonder where they went wrong...well for a start- you didnt take care of home.

parents need to buck up on their skills, and rappers need to curb their musical lyrics as well

  12. gansta music has some impact on youths by brainwashing them to think that that kind of lifestyle is great.

the real cause of crime is how they are brought. the parents, community, education/lack of education, friends and so on.

alot of youth dont give a **** about others. have no heart, no conscience and no remorse. = sociopaths!

Sad sad sad world we live in.

I hear the stories jr sec students from teachers. Describing the environment they live in, parents abusing, molesting, teenage s*x, p**n, poverty, crimes etc.

  13. Parents should take responsibility and step up to what their kids are listening too.

It's a constant in my household.. I have 6 teenage boys living in my house ranging in the ages  14 to 18yrs. and 3 teenage girls ranging 13 to 17yrs, so I'm always monitoring the music and television, but I have no problems with the kids except that they eat too much..
