" I sent my sould through the invisible..." What is the meaning?

This is a quote from the film&book The Picture of Dorian Gray what does it mean?

"I sent my soul through the invisible

Some letter of that after-life spell;

And by and by my soul returned to me

And answered, 'I myself and Heaven and h**l.'"

some letter of that afterlife to spell;

and by and by my soul returned to me,

and answered, "I myself am Heav'n and h**l"”

Omar Khayyam in my opinion meant that his soul went to see what the afterlife was made of and after this trip, his soul said I am both heaven and h**l.
