"All in all, I think we're in contention," says Oakland Athletics rookie closer Ryan Cook
Several of the Oakland Athletics’ players are recently speaking to the media on their team’s potential chances to play in the post-season.
Along with some senior players, A’s rookie closing pitcher Ryan Cook also thinks that his team can win with ease in the second half of the season.
“All in all, I think we're in contention, That's where I expect us to be. I expect to win. We expect to win.” Cook said on his team’s chances to win a playoff spot leading to the World Series title.
Later A's starter Brandon McCarthy said, "I think we're still in it, Some holes we had early, we've added pieces that helped, and we've become a seriously competitive team, especially with that second wild card. I think we can make a run at it without feeling silly for saying that."
A’s have finished the first half of the season achieving quite consistent results of 43-43 win-loss and .500 winning percentage. With their players fresh ambitions to play in the second half with full focus, the A’s will surely get some positive returns out from their players’ optimism.
On the other hand, coming onto both players individual stats who are very optimistic about their team’s second half’s results, also suggests that A’s certainly possess some real fire power which will potentially give them a chance to compete for the title.
Ryan Cook finished with 1.41 ERA along with eight saves, 39 strike-outs and 0.89 WHIP.
His performance in All-Star Game was also appreciated by many when he tossed a perfect seventh and proved his first All-Star selection.
“It felt like a save situation to me with all the extra adrenaline, I felt like a kid. It's everything you ever thought it would be and more, and that's the truth," Cook said on his first performance of All-Star Game
Brandon McCarthy who is also showing his optimism for the Athletics, has performed relatively well in the first half of the season as he achieved 2.54 ERA along with 6-3 win-loss, 52 strike-outs and 1.21 WHIP.
