I know many here know about AKC's ILP/Pal prgram.. you can registered a spayed/neutered AKC recognized purebred thru thris program to compete in non-conformation events.

Did you know that UKC also offers a similar program? However.. not only do they accept purebred dogs.. they will also accept mixes!

You learn something new every day!

If you have a mix, would you use something like this and compete in non-conformation events?

  1. The UKC has offered this program for a long time now.  Spayed/Neutered mixbreeds are welcome to compete in their performance sports (obedience, agility, dock diving) alongside purebred dogs.  Mixbreed dogs are also welcome to compete at the UKC Premier.

ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) also welcomes mixbreed dogs in their obedience & agility competition, also competing alongside purebred dogs.

There are many mixbreed competing in these venues.  My mixbreed (who passed in June), earned her UACH & UOCH thru the UKC.   We've earned HIT's, HS AMBOR, we attended and competed at the Premier in agility.

It's a wonderful program and the UKC is a great venue, the atmosphere is wonderful and I was alway made to feel welcome with my mixbreed dog.

BTW, AMBOR (American Mix Breed Obedience Registry) is the parent club of mixbreed dogs.  They track the points you earn in the different venues and you get awards at the end of the year.

I would not hesitate to show a mixbreed in obedience/agility again.

  2. m a y b e . . . but there is just something about the UKC that doesn't seem right to me.

  3. That's very informational!  I did not know this!  :o)

I however, would not need it, but, I know people that would possibly be interested in knowing this and having this information.

Very interesting info, and thank you for the post!

  4. NADAC and USDAA also allow mixes to complete in agility.  I'm certain that in the near future, the AKC will also let mixes compete in companion events.  The CGC program is a good start.

  5. Wow, this is great, I never heard of it!  Of course I would use something like this.  I have a mixed breed dog and always wondered if they did something for mixes.  I got her in a shelter.  Here is my mixed breed- she's a lab/pit/shepherd!
