  3. You're kind of a nut-ball, but there is some truth to it. Not 100 percent, but some. There would be more truth to it if he were conscious of the fact that cars are not simply an American phenomenon. In fact, the thing was invented by Germans. The fact is, cars are destructive to the environment, but one big reason is that we've made them so inefficient. If they had less of an environmental footprint, they would be less destructive. I would say that what mankind looks at as progress, from machines to buildings to aircraft to food to medical care, have been destructive as a whole. To single out cars and Americans is short-sighted and irresponsible.
