Question:

"Antivirus XP 2008 License agreement" pop-up - Is this safe?

Out of nowhere I just got a pop-up on my screen while using the net. It says "Antivirus XP 2008 license agreement" on the top, and then a lot of jargon & info beneath it in a grey box.

At the bottom of it is a button with "Agree and Install" on it. There's nothing else to click. No red x to get it off my screen either.

What is it? Is it something I should click? I'm wary of it. I can't get it off my screen anyway (although I'm obviously able to click on and view other pages while it's there)...

Please advise!! Thanks a lot!!

  1. Antivirus XP is an extremely dangerous program that will try to get you to purchase it in order to continue to infect your PC.  It's a difficult program to remove but if you follow these steps you shouldn't have a problem:

That should take care of the problem for you.  Good luck and safe surfing.

  2. Just don't click on it. I suggest you download & update these 2 programmes, both free, run a full scan with each then delete whatever they find. Its a rogue anti virus.

    http://www.malwarebytes.com

I have had it a couple of times and what I`ve just suggested cleared it.

  3. Do not click it. Close down the internet completely when you get it. Do a scan if you want, but there shouldn't be anything harmful on your PC. Some people say there is, but I have NEVER had a problem and I've had it on three different PCs

Edit: If you don't click there should be nothing to remove as it is a popup. Otherwise do a scan - if its not removed or not found and it is causing problems then you can go through the process of removing it

  4. Download an run the the following free software in order one by one, delete what ever they find should leave your PC free of Antivirus XP 2008:

    Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    SuperAntispyware: http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware...

    SmitfraudFix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.e...

    Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.download.com/Avast-Home-Editi...

Once you have removed it keep Avast and download Comodo Pro firewall, then switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE this should stop it returning. (links on my profile)

  5. As 2 people have already suggested, MalwareBytes Anti Malware should get rid of this.

  6. Its a Virus that when you click will install and infects your computer, Run and scan an Antivirus to get rid of it. Don't Click that pop up.
