Barcelona starlet http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 has claimed that the race to the Spanish League crown is far from over and Barcelona will fight till the end of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s men visited El Molinon this Saturday to face Villarreal in their La Liga encounter.
The Catalans returned frustrated, having dropped two points from a crucial league fixture after a 0-0 draw.
It was in no way a convincing performance by the current Spanish Champions.
Although La Blaugrana dominated much of the game’s proceedings, they were unable to find the back of the net.
It was a heavily contested match, with the Catalans creating several chances to score. However, resilience by the Yellow Submarine and a great display in the defence ensured that the visitors were successfully kept out.
Barca’s failure to score a goal, despite creating several chances, ended the match in a stalemate.
On the other hand, their fierce rivals and Spanish title contenders, Real Madrid, had no difficulty in overcoming Real Zaragoza and ensuring 3 important points for themselves.
Prior to the match, the gap at the top of the Spanish Primera Division’s league standings was five points; however, Saturday’s results have opened the gap to seven points.
Currently, Real Madrid are at the top of La Liga, seven points above Barcelona. With such a huge gap between the two Spanish Giants, Barca’s ambitions of retaining the title might be in jeopardy.
Despite the difference in points, Messi has insisted that there is still a lot to play for in this season’s campaign, and Barcelona have the capability to bounce back in the title race.
While talking to reporters, the Argentine was quoted as saying:
"Barcelona never surrender. The second round of matches has just begun, there is a lot left. There are many points to fight for, now we have to focus on the Copa del Rey match [against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863] and we will have to do things well to try
to be in the final.”
Barcelona are currently second in the Spanish Primera league standings, seven points behind league leaders, Real Madrid.
