"Cannot Use This File As Ringtone"?

i have a sony ericson w580i and this error message always pops up everytime i try using a custom ringtone, is there anyway to avoid this. i have a rogers plan(i dont know if that effects anything)

  1. your ringtone should be under an .mp3 format for ringtones or use a ringtone website and download but make sure it is under the right format like for example: borat_message.mp3


  2. the problem is that you have Rogers.  And Rogers does not allow their customers to load their  ringtones. Same with Alltel and Sprint. There is only one free site that works with Rogers and Alltel  and its called Ventones

    not sure what they do, but they do something to allow their customers from Alltel and Rogers to make and send ringtones to their phones

    go there, and you can convert any mp3 file into a ringtone. Then before sending it to your phone, check where it says "Rogers users" .

    Then use that new URL that they give you. I do it all the time for my Rogers phone. You can either download the ringtone and transfer it with a cable, or  download it from your phone's browser. Just type in the URL.
