I'm going to NY early July and the prices are ridiculous cos it's peak season and cos of the fuel charge increase. It's a trip that should have been taken in April hence why I haven't booked in advance as it's kinda last min and I HAVE to go!

What's the best course of action to getting the best possible deal at this time of year. I'm searching all the usual sites on an hourly basis and the prices are c**p ..'cheapest' I've seen so far today is £517.

Do airlines sell seats that can't shift cheaper and is there a best time to call to find out? Any advice much appreciated cos my friend and I are ripping our hair out here!

My friend is suggesting standby but I've ready they're usually even MORE expensive!!!

Please help me!!!

  1. U knw I am fed up with ppl asking flight questions on yahoo

4 God's sake it takes much fewer time when u search at

n its where everyone searches from

  2. A few ideas to try.

A non direct flight with Icelandair via Keflavik. ? They used to be the cheapest carrier across the Atlantic. The problem is a two hour stop on route. Maybe with Aer Lingus via Dublin.

Check the Sunday papers for a New York Holiday. You can always throw away the hotel. They book in bulk and you may get a better deal.

Consider using other Airports. Fly from Gatwick or Luton to Newark, New jersey (It's actually closer to NY City than JFK is.)

Try using an American site with prices in $, the exchange rate is in the UK's favour at present.
