Question:

"Child's Theme" Birthday party for 30 year old?

I am throwing a 30th birthday party for my husband. Instead of a black over the hill theme I would like to throw a 3 year old birthday for my husband that is still appropriate for adults. Any ideas on things I should have for decorations, entertainment ect?? I thought it would be cool to have the plastic dump truck toys filled with snacks, and I am going to have a childhood picture for the invitations and cake. I was also thinking of getting a large moon walk or slide. But would like to have much more unique and fun ideas to pull the theme throughout the entire party any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks In Advance!

  1. I would say go with more of a carnival kids theme. Do a dunk tank, or pitching machine ect. Have a cotton candy machine, little hamburgers, ect.  I am not sure what people don't get about your theme. It's cute and I am glad that you and your friends are secure and mature enough to act silly. It seems as if some of the people who replied are stiff and immature!! I think that the 80's theme is so overdone now of days, along with tropical luau and casino themes. Its nice that you are imaginative enough to think of something different and unique. Have fun!

  2. I love it and Im 48. I think Sponge Bob would be a great theme....You can still do the moon walk thing but decorate with fish and jelly fish and crabs.... you can have boats instead of the dumptruck and put in gummy worms and gummy fish and of couse you can have sponge cake for desert....Have a blast and add water fun....water balloons and water cannons. prizes for fishing in a wadding pool...I think I will do this just for the heck of it!!!

  3. The whole idea just seems so..innapropriate.

will there be alchoholic beverages consumed at this party?

you should think twice about a little child theme as some guests may feel the same way.

    kind of creepy really.

  4. Having a bouncy castle would be cool.

Ask him what he was into when he was younger (subtly). If he liked hot wheels, transformers (sorry, I'm a little younger =/), try to centre your plates and decoration around it. Playing not-so-annoying nursery rhymes could set the mood too.

And keep lots of silly string on hand =)

  5. The smurfs!  You could serve "smurf and turf" : grilled steaks and a blueberry dessert.  :)

  6. That doesnt sound like fun at all. He's 30 not 70!

Im sure he would feel embarrased!!!

  7. McDonalds theme with all trhe trimin's. My 3 yo g'son loved it.

  8. Your idea sounds great!

Well some games at 3 year olds parties include pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, a Piñata (preferably a teletubby or dora the explorer), pointy party hats, matching paper towels, cups, and plates, and a childish birthday cake.

Good luck with the party...sounds great!

  9. I had my husband's 30th birthday at Farrell's Ice Cream, where they bring a huge "zoo" with about 18 scoops, and everyone eats from it...and they had balloons and sang to him:) .....I think it's a cute idea, and the dump trucks are cute too:)  Don't forget a truck cake!  You can probably find "Cars" or "Bob the Builder" papergoods & decorations......Although the Spongebob answer was also a really good one, and easier to carry the theme throughout (Krabby cakes to eat, i.e.)

  10. Get a bunch of Ken Barbie Dolls and sit them up in the dump trucks, oh and some G.I. Joes. Maybe one of those big, blow up jumpers that you can put in your back yard that have the slides:)

Great idea, sounds like a lot of fun. Your husband is a lucky guy to have a thoughtful wife.

  11. that sounds like fun. you should figure out what tv shows and toys were popular when he was growing up and incorporate those.

  12. This is so corny where did you get your idea from ,like did you sit and talk with your 2yr old and say lets plan a party for daddy, anyway Try bob the builder since he is a man and I hope he is very handy around the house at least bob the builder would explain a kids party I had a friend who's husband was a construction worker and she had him a surprise bob the builder party.

  13. Well i definately don't think 30 merits an over the hill party at all ... maybe 60 or 50. However my friend just turned 30 and we did an 80s themed party, everyone dressed in 80's get ups which is easy now because it is coming back.  We drank boones farm, spoli, and beer and the DJ was instructed to ONLY play music from the 80s we had  BLAST!!! everyone looked so good with their big hair, mullets, crimped hair, etc!!

  14. I say wait til he is 40 for the child theme party and go for a era such as 70's, 80's or do get some friends together and when you were 16 and find out what was hot then, the price of gas, etc........ or even when he was 6 what did he want to be.  Make the food and bev age appropriate unless it is a family affair. Trust adults don't need  games just music and conversation.

  15. You could have someone in a costume dressed like sherek and have a cake shaped like a choo choo train and adults would laugh! Then you can shove the cake into his face and have a real party it would be hilarious!

  16. I'm confused...
