"Chong Wei is not thinking about any milestones," says Rashid Sidek – London Olympics Update
Singles chief coach of Malaysia Rashid Sidek stated that the badminton king Lee Chong Wei is not going to set high targets in coming edition of Olympics rather he is more focused just to put his best in London Games.
The mega event will be in full swing from July 28, 2012 and the nation is expecting the World Number two shuttler to end the gold medal drought this year.
However, the badminton guru Rashid is not ready to pressurise his prime shuttler as he briefed that their primary target is to clear elimination round of the event.
He said, "Chong Wei is not thinking about any milestones but on quality training to be as well prepared as possible for the Olympics. The bigger concern is the knockout stage where he needs to be well prepared."
Badminton World Federation (BWF) is going to announce preliminary draws today and Chong Wei will be top seeded player which means he will not meet Chinese nemesis Lin Dan in opening rounds of the event.
Rashid declared that they are waiting for the draws to make pre match game plans for every opponent.
He revealed that Chong Wei will feel comfortable if he battles Chen Jin in knockout round but he also added that the ace is ready to take on even Chen Long.
He said, "It will be slightly easier if he meets Chen Jin in the semis but he will be ready for Chen Long as well."
At the moment, Chong Wei is swinging his arms in central training camp at Bath and he is in high spirits to register an avenging victory against World and Olympic Champion Lin Dan.
In 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Chinese maestro deprived Chong Wei of gold medal by sealing a splendid victory in title match.
Rashid believes that this year pressure will be on Lin Dan as to defend the honour will be an uphill task for him.
The record shows that no one has ever won Olympic gold medals in a row and the Malaysian coach claimed that this will work in Chong Wei’s favour if he makes way into final showdown against Lin Dan.
