it differs based on every cat.  my last siamese just melted in my arms no matter how I held him but my female siamese only likes to be held upside down (like a baby) and only for about 2-3 minutes, then she wants down.  then there's my mom's cat....if you turn that thing upside down it's like a grenade!

I don't about british shorthairs but the Chartreux breed is super affectionate follows you everywhere and loves to be held so I think you should go w/this breed. Cats in general are more affectionate and less aggresive when neutered or spayed so you should do that. I had the same breed and the one that was neutered was more loving and it is proven. Hope I helped!
