Richard Bach, an American writer, once wrote 'Every problem has a gift for you in its hands.' in his 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' (1970)

The word 'Probortunity' came from this quote.

I doubt this is the first occurrence of such a statement, but this may be helpful if you need a reference.
