"Going 'Green' means millions going hungry"?

What!??

Has nobody in government heard of permaculture, or got the imagination to conceive the idea that planting more should create abundance?

Oh, imagine fruit trees... growing everywhere, for us all to enjoy... That'd help to make "Heaven here on Earth" would it not?

  1. If you use bio-fuels yes. I saw a political comic where there was this guy in a patriotic suit and he held a basket of corn. There was a famished african bey wanting some. The other guy said "Sorry, I have to fill my tank"

  2. Going green does definitely not have to mean people going hungry. It is possible to produce that result if one purposefully chooses to turn food crops into bio fuel or to use prime food growing land into fuel farms. But there is absolutely no reason technical or economic to do so. It is in fact an ideal opportunity to utilize marginal land for fuel and so provide an income to millions who currently have none.

People in this country have been practicing a variation of permaculture for over 12,000 years. Famines and food shortages are a recent phenomenon due to western influences, diverting best land to grow coffee, cocoa, oil palm etc.

The real trick is to use the land for what it is best suited for. There is plenty of land to grow enough food for all and enough bio mass for fuel as well.

We may have to think twice before we burn valuable liquid fuels in power stations though. Better to generate electricity from other energy sources.

Not done here, as there is plenty of land, but keep reading about people in developed countries growing weeds in their cellars? Seems it is possible to grow stuff everywhere!

  4. yaay permaculture!

cuba have made a good go of it, suddenly cut off from oil, fertiliser etc by the collapse of the soviet union, they turned organic overnight. the small plots cultivated by individuals are 3 times as productive as the old state run farms.

    plots for all!

and fruit trees, back to the garden indeed, low input, high output and somewhere to hang your hammock! paradise.

thor, that's the problem, and why i say; plots for all! its a political rallying cry if you will.

But you peddle revolution be careful

it would put a lot of government people out of a job

We have campaigned here in Yahoo for months to get them

to recognize Permaculture as a category, which has been doggedly ignored and refused.

To incite people to handle their own sewage, grow their own food ,produce their own energy and be good to the Environment with out contaminating anything ,is radical and against the system.

And for those who say they cannot grow anything because they live in an Apartment

Life is a series of choices ,one can follow the money or a way of life ,and where you live has been a result of the choices you made .

A person who pursues the quality of life that comes with Permaculture does not live in a apartment

People with little money have ganged up and bought small holdings or a farm with friends who think like wise

but you can already do a lot in a back yard

somebody sent me a text on Urban gardening in vacant plots in Chicago recently in the city growing corn ,unbelievable

a lot can be grown on roof tops in pots or on plastic sheets .

in Holland some people grow tomatoes on a balcony

many people grow herbs on the window sills

Of course having land is the best but there is a lot of wasted oppertunity land in the suburbs ,

maybe we need different laws that give people temporary permission to use vacant land for growing stuff ,if it is not other wise occupied,

In the Netherlands are very strict laws on land use ,because we have so little ,one cannot have 2 many empty houses for example and   the side of the railway tracks are used to grow vegetables ,you do not see a square meter that is not used.

City people can be tourist for friends in the country ,and they are just as important to bring in some extra cash to supplement the operation there ,

  6. Thats good for us who have a few acres, or even those who have a small plot in the suburbs.   Even people living in apartments can grow a few vegies on the fire escape and window sill, but that won't support them for long.
