"Great Bodily Injury" explanation, Whats the explanation of this quote?

I was reading the definition of "great bodily injury" and a part of that definition caught my attention, "(g) Severe physical pain inflicted by

torture." What kind of "pain" are they talking about here? Pain that lasted for about a few hours? Or pain that can put his life in danger? Help please

I think it refers to immediate pain.

If you looked at the definition it said "torture"  most of the time this WILL cause a person to die or live in a vegetated state for the rest of their lives.

Sounds to me like you are talking about a domestic violence charge and if so GBI can go from a small bruise to a broken bone!
