Has anybody on here ever actually rung one of these numbers after seeing it on the back of a van/lorry? If so, does somebody answer or is it an answering machine? I keep seeing them and they seem pretty pointless.

  1. This was a govt. backed initiative to try and promote more confidence in the professionalism of drivers by the general public. Unfortunately, many people took it upon themselves to use it as a means to make spurious claims against drivers for the silliest things. For example, one fella phoned to complain that I had hit his car on a roundabout and crushed the wing.Fortunately, it was my own lorry and myself that this idiot phoned. At the time, there was nothing on or approaching the roundabout, and I had previously noticed the vehicle in question in a driveway just down from the roundabout. The up shot was his claim was disproved, he looked a right idiot, and I removed the stocker from the trailer. So, in answer to your question, yes, they are now a pointless thing, and as such, not worth bothering about.

  2. I called one many years ago to report a van in Great Yarmouth for dangerous driving, I spoke to a person who took my number and said they would talk to the driver and ring me back with his version. I`m still waiting for call back !!

  3. I haven't called.  But I did call the company for one trucker I saw that was driving recklessly. He came onto the highway without looking while driving at a high rate of speed. I thought for sure he was going to take out another driver. I left a message for someone but who knows if anything came of it. I felt better after. I could have called the police but at the time it seemed to better to get in touch with the company. He seemed to get the truck under control the longer he was on the highway but I thought what he did was reckless and driving to endanger.

  4. I have problems reading the numbers to ring cos they are often illegible with spray or mud!!!

The only time I have thought about phoning the number is when I haven't been impressed by their driving.  There again if I was to phone while I was driving, then I'd be worse than them!!!

  5. it was another good idea until folks found out they could get the driver in trouble for splashing their car and other dumb things. so yes it now is a joke.

  6. I have many times in the U.S. and for the most part it is pretty worthless..................
