I ran into this a lot when looking around the STD section.

I think this statement makes it more obvious that you are asking for yourself.

Agree/disagree? Why?

  1. I'm sure it's a little bit of both. And why were you looking in the STD section?????????  >: l

  2. Often yes, sometimes it may be for a friend.. someone may be embarrassed.. but it doesn't matter. People should not judge others... so whatever they say..  anybody here could make up a story.. and who is going to know whether it's true.... anyone could even invent a story.. so I prefer if someone has a problem and pretends it' the friend who has a problem..  people are worried that others judge them so they may say they ask for a friend.. and most probably ask for themselves but some may ask to help a friend... we don't know for certain..  we don't know the people and their lives so we shouldn't make assumptions...

  3. I agree that it does look like you are asking for yourself and trying to hide it. There is a certain degree of anon. on YA but I think it is really sad that someone is so scared and embarassed that someone might possibly think THEY have an STD that they go to such lengths to disguise it.

Unfortunately it does make it more obvious.

  4. I agree.  And it's so lame.  I mean, this is pretty much an anonymous forum.  Even if you ARE asking for a friend...no one cares!

  5. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure my friend doesn't have a STD. :)

  6. why were you looking around the STD section huh?!

  7. I agree that it looks like an obvious and unnecessary deceit.

I have no problem with that.  We already have a degree of anonymity because of the nature of Y!A.  If someone has a serious question about STDs, they should have an answer.

It makes no difference to me whether someone needs to cloak the question behind a "friend" just to ask.  What matters is that they (or their friend) get help.  There are a lot of silly questions, but once in a while, there is someone who has nowhere else to start looking for help and anonymity (and hiding behind a "friend") makes it easier.

What bothers me most is when someone with a real problem gets a question removed because a troll disagrees with the content.
