"I don't want to put added pressure on him," says Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy for Tim Lincecum
The San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum has not performed well during the first half of 2012 Major League Baseball season.
He looked tired on the mound whenever he came to pitch and could not do much as what was expected from him at the start of this season.
The team management however, is still optimistic regarding his potential second half’s performance and stating in the media that they have complete confidence in Lincecum and he surely will play the later half.
Team manager Bruce Bochy is trying to give Lincecum some positive support which might work well for his performance in the coming days.
Bochy is considered an intelligent manager and certainly trying to give Lincecum a positive boost and making sure that his player will enter into the second half full of optimism.
Bruce said, "I don't want to put added pressure on him. You have to do what's right. We'll keep an eye on him. We'll see how this goes. I just think of the second half as a fresh start, You've got to come do your job and leave no excuse on the table. That's what I'm here to do."
He added by explaining why Lincecum and his other pitchers were slightly inaccurate, “The at-bats with runners in scoring position -- we're going to have to get better, If you look at the number of guys we get on base and the opportunities we've created, we should be able to score. We've had some inconsistent at-bats."
This is a healthy sign that the Giants’ skipper is supporting his players especially those who struggled with their performances.
Lincecum, who had 6.42 ERA during the first half of the season, certainly struggled with his pace. His 3-10 win-loss record and 1.58 WHIP also suggest that his pitching was not accurate.
He is a good player who is carrying career 3.27 ERA but with a few poor performances it has pushed him behind and his team management is also thinking to drop him from the rotation for a little while.
However, some reports have been suggesting that the Giants will test him again on coming Saturday when the mid season break will ended to decide what to do.
