"I trained Prince Fielder," says Cecil Fielder – MLB News
Cecil Fielder is very happy for his son Prince Fielder these days. The father-son relationship has made headlines in almost all newspapers in the City of Detroit. A few days ago, Prince Fielder agreed to a $214 million deal with the Tigers, which made him one of the highest earning player in history of Major League Baseball.
Showing his composure, temperament and hitting skills, Fielder posted impressive stats last season. With 38 home-runs and 120 RBI’s, he achieved a remarkable batting average of .299. The left hand striker has an extremely powerful swing and the MLB pitchers have not been able to find a way to get him out cheaply.
"You play for the Tigers," Cecil Fielder said of Prince. "I played for the Tigers. Do your thing. I can tell you Mr. Ilitch is concerned about this relationship. It gets old for me," Cecil Fielder said. "But at the end of the day, I know what I did for my son."
"We all knew the kid was obese," he further added. "He had a hard time running to first base without getting tired. You don't transform your body by yourself; you've got to have trainers, have people cooking for you. There's a lot going into that."
Although Fielder is a bit heavy, he is an asset to have on the field. In addition to performing his hitting duties effectively, the guy is extremely agile and athletic on the field. Being a focused baseballer, he has earned a great name for himself at such a young age. But what is behind his success?
In an interview with a leading sport website, Cecil Fielder stated that he provided his son with the required coaching when he was a kid. He explained that Fielder used to struggle to run to the first base without getting tired.
The father worked hard with his son to transform his body. Fielder does not have a very warm relationship with his father these days and Detroit Tigers’ owner Mike Ilitch has also raised concerns about this relationship. Cecil is convinced that he has done everything for his son that he possibly could.
