"I wouldn't be in this seat if it wasn't for LeBron James" says Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown
Mike Brown, the current head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers is amongst the few guys in NBA history who have earned their position.
After working hard as an assistant coach with three teams over a period of eight years (1997-2005), Mike finally got his first assignment as a head coach with Cleveland Cavaliers.
And he did not make any time to make an impact.
In just two, years, he took his team to NBA finals for the first time in the franchise’s history and the years after that were a success story, as he went on to win many accolades in his 5 years stint with the team.
His extraordinary work with the Cavs landed him as the head coach of Los Angeles Lakers and although, he got the chance to coach one of the best teams purely because of his own hard work, Mike recently credited Miami Heat superstar
LeBron James - an ex Cavalier too – for his success over the years.
Mike coached LeBron for five years in his stint with Cavaliers and in that time, it was LeBron’s extraordinary performances in the court that helped Mike to become a successful coach and hence to get his second job as the head
coach of Lakers.
Lakers would be meeting Heat in a day time and as a coach, Mike would not be too thrilled with his former player tearing his new team’s defences, however he boldly admitted, he wishes to see LeBron doing what he has been doing
for years.
LeBron was sent off the Heats practice session yesterday after he showed signs of flu, however Mike added, LeBron is a fighter and such small issues cannot force him out of action.
Showering praises on his former player, Mike further added.
“I think he'll play because he's a great player and that's what great players do," Brown said. "When you talk about great players like him, those guys, even when they're sick or a little injured, they find a way to perform at a
high level and I don't think it's any different for LeBron, who is a great player. ... The flu, the stomachache, dizziness, however you want to call it, it doesn't affect great players like it does the average human being. I don't expect anything different
from him tonight."
Brown and James had a mighty successful time together from 2005-2007, but unfortunately, the team failed to reach the playoffs in the next two years for which Mike was later fired and LeBron eventually moved to the Cavaliers.
