This statement was made in a video we watched in my sociology class called, "The Shadow of Hate: A History of Intolerance in America." What does this statement mean?

  1. we want to know about everything about a person whom we love most, if they hide we get irritated or we shout at them we start doing all crazy things which we should not do we lose our patience we become intolerant  .......................

if we know everything about them we will not behave in that "MANNER"

  2. Bottom line.

Someone's always out to hate someone that doesn't look, act, worship, or talk like them.

  3. Having not seen the video, I have to guess.

The truth would be that we are all essentially the same, and that we are all fallible.

  4. it means that if your to be tolerant you must know about them you have to know their situation

  5. the truth is written inside of a box of cracker jacks find the box and you'll have your answer

  6. That will mean many things to many people.  Sorry I can't give you a cookie cutter answer to that.  For me personally it means that historically blacks in this country were mistreated by slavery and segregation.  Then the civil rights movement ocurred and we have been trying to heal ever since.  I feel it is time to get past the 1800s whoa is me mentality and move on.  Some minorities have begun to accuse whites of everything bad (al sharpton, jesse jackson, louis farakhan) that has ever happened to them as a race and as a result you see white power and neo n**i groups on the rise to respond to this.  The minorities hating the majority is called reverse racism (Rev. Wright, obama's pastor comes to mind).  The black panthers did it for blacks in the 60s.  This is all counter to what mlk taught, he wanted equality for all races, not just blacks or whites, which is why so many loved him.  Whether it is right or wrong for these hate groups to defend their race using these tactics depends on who you ask.  Alot of people feel that preferential treatment of some minorities through affirmative action is institutionalized racism.  I do not support these radical groups on either side (KKK or black panthers) and i did not support any gov. program that gives anyone an advantage, to do so i think promotes hatred and resentment.  the gov. needs to stay out of the race business and let us solve things ourselves imho. bottom line, just try to love and respect everyone no matter how hard it is. if you don't agree, you can always vote...

  7. only you know that, your truth maybe a lie to another.

  8. Just analyze the statement

If we are to be tolerant****************

How will we express tolerance for others, this supposes that tolerance is desired.

we must know the truth about people**********

We can not exist with myths, lies, stereotypes and so on.  We have to get pass us/them.

We have to see people for who, what and how they really are.

This does not take a lot to figure out, the word "truth" got people answering all kinds of things that had nothing to do with the statement. That is called a 'knee jerk reaction', yes?

  9. If we are to be tolerant, we must know the the truth about people. That truth is "No individuals are alike. Mutual understanding and interaction are essential elements".

  10. were mostly all being dictatored be the government. and if you dont relize that even after years of living here and me directly telling you your an idiot

  11. In my experience, the truth about people is that every last one turns out to be crazy in some way once you truly get to know him or her. Myself included. Maybe we are all crazy together, and if we know and accept this, we can all learn to be tolerant of one another's craziness?

  12. the truth my bro is relative some of us think that people are evil by nature some think that we are good

so I think that there are both evil and good humans And it take a very powerful man/woman to know the deference between these two corners of life

  13. I don't really like the statement.  I can see the point of it...but putting up with something we don't personally like doesn't usually work for very long.  At some point, how we feel about something or someone will come out and it will have to be dealt with.  I tolerate a dog barking next door.  A few more nights of interupted sleep, I will be making a decision.  My decision could be to yell out the window, go to my neighbor, call the police or animal control.  I tolerate a annoying boss because I need my paycheck.  But how long will I put up with it?  You see what I am trying to say.  I think Civil rights have gone the wrong route in this country.  What we have accomplished is extremely wonderful, but we have a long way to go.  Slogans put out in the sixties like Black is beautiful, meant to inspire, encourage, promote self esteem have lead to a generation that feels black is better....which is is the type of thinking civil rights is against.   This type of thinking, although it started with good intentions, has led to the wrong message.  I think this message of tolerance has good intentions, but the feeling it conveys is the opposite.
