"I’m still adjusting" says Orlando Magic forward Glen Davis - NBA Update
Orlando Magic made few modifications to their roster this season to give themselves a chance at the NBA title, the most prominent being the addition of Boston Celtics power forward, Glen Davis.
The 26 years old Davis was signed by Magic this season for two purposes – one to share the burden from their star Dwight Howard by being a role player and to secondly to bring the winning mentality into the team.
However, unfortunately for Magic, Davis has failed to deliver in his first seven outings. Although he has shown shades of brilliance on few instances, but has looked far from his best.
He is currently averaging 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this season, which is way below his last year’s average of 11.7 points and 5.4 rebounds. And naturally, Magic’s coach Stan Van Gundy is concerned with Davis’s performance.
Magic have tough three weeks ahead where they are scheduled to play six playoff teams from last season and therefore Glen needs to find his grove back as quickly as possible. For this reason, Gundy and Davis had a long conversation
after team’s Thursday practice session and at the end, the Magic coach seemed confident that Davis would soon return to form soon.
According to Gundy, Davis is adjusting with the new team and on the other hand also trying extra hard to make an immediate impact in the team, which is affecting his natural game. However, he believes that the burly PF is motivated
to improve and will gain rhythm in the coming days.
David himself revealed that he is struggling to get acclimatized to the entirely new culture at Orlando;
"I'm basically just getting used to my new surroundings and it takes time," Davis said. "I was with (the Celtics) for four years and won a championship with that team and it's a different culture here. I just have to work the kinks
out. I'm just going to keep my composure and do what I need to do and perform the way I know that I can perform. I put a lot of pressure on myself and what you see out there is me wanting to do more. But I can't let it not flow."
With scorers like Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson in the team, Davis does not need to over try to match them. His game play is different than both of them and his role too in the team is different. The quickly he understands this,
the better it will be for him and the team.
