The Spanish tactician has admitted that it is impossible for the defending champions to catch up on Real Madrid in the race for the Liga BBVA title.
Guardiola has conceded that Los Blancos may have already won the Spanish La Liga title as he deems his side to be far behind in the title race.
He claimed that it will be unrealistic to think that the league is still open and expressed that even though there are a number of fixtures to be played, he is not too optimistic about retaining the Spanish Primera.
La Blaugrana’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid, have been simply fantastic throughout the course of the current season’s campaign. Despite dropping two points over the weekend, Los Vikingos command an eight-point lead at the top of the Spanish Primera Division’s
league standings.
The two top teams in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 were in action this past weekend as they played out their respective fixtures in the Liga BBVA. Catalan giants, Barca, played their match on Saturday and recorded a convincing victory over Sevilla.
The Catalan giants travelled away from home to lock horns with Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. La Blaugrana were able to put up an excellent performance as they emerged 2-0 winners from the night.
Los Blancos were in action the next day, as they played hosts to a very determined Malaga. To the dismay of the Santiago Bernabeu faithful, Jose Mourinho’s men were held to a draw at home as the match finished 1-1.
A late equalizer from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santi-Cazorla-c32505 forced the home side to settle for a point, reducing the gap at the top of the table to 8 points. The difference between Real and Barca in the table was previously of 10 points.
Although Sunday’s result provided Pep Guardiola’s men with some initiative, the Catalan mentor has stated that he does not have his hopes high.
While addressing a press conference, the 41-year-old was quoted as saying:
"It is difficult to see them losing more games. I still don't think we will win the league. Mathematically it is possible but I do not think we will make it.”
"I said the same thing a few days ago: our objective isn't to be thinking about clawing those eight points back. I think that would be a mistake. I said what I said three days ago. It's impossible. Nothing has changed."
The current Spanish champions will be in action once again this Tuesday as they face Granada at the Nou Camp.
