"Jorge Posada’s determination, passion and drive for the game will be missed," says Mariano Rivera
The New York Yankees talented veteran pitcher Mariano Rivera has praised his teammate Jorge Posada with high regard saying his determination, passion and drive for the game will be missed by every Yankee fan around the globe.
Rivera was speaking during a press conference right after Posada took official retirement spending a successful career staying with a team from where he started off his career some 16 years ago.
Rivera said with sheer admiration for Posada, “His fire, determination, passion and drive for the game [will be missed]. He was always pushing to get better.”
Along with Rivera, New York Yankees' star shortstop Derek Jeter also remembered Posada’s great talent and his contribution to baseball as in one piece.
Derek Jeter said, “I know how much playing here meant to him. It’ll be tough without him around.”
Yankees' current general manager Brian Cashman later commented about Posada and his great success with the New York based baseball franchise.
Cashman said, “Sometimes there are rough patches, but you try to get through them. We obviously had a rough patch this year … but we all fought through it as he make a run at the Hall of Fame and added that last season’s controversy was “like a mosquito bite on a career of nothing but positives.”
Everyone is agreeing on Posada’s great contribution that has proved wonderful for his team in New York. Not only did he start his career from the Yankees’ platform but he also ended his career here.
Posada’s career includes four precious World Series titles along with All Star selection and five Silver Slugger awards.
He is leaving with a career hitting average of .273 along with 275 home-runs, 1065 RBIs and OBP of .374.
Same say, Posada’s late retirement decision is directly linked with the level of performance he showed last season, achieving .235 hitting average along with 14 homers, 44 RBIs and .315 OBP.
Even Posada accepted his poor run of play in 2011 during his press conference on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium and told reporters that he somehow felt that it is the right time to depart from the game.
