  3. Kippen is a pleasant village some ten miles or so the west of the Royal Burgh of Stirling .It had the largest grape vine in the world at one time before it was destroyed about 40 years ago . The name Kippen comes from this lovely place .Many  Kippens moved some 20 or so miles north into Perthshire in the 17th century  . A Thomas Kippen of Machanie is mentioned in charters about 1630 and Andrew Kippen was chamberlain to the laird of Grandtully in 1717 .
