My little sis got her lip pierced like a year ago and like 3 weeks after she got it done her skin on the inside of her lip completely closed over the back flat part of the lip ring. Its not one of those hoops its a ball with a flat (disc shaped) back. Not long after she went to her regular Doctor and he said they couldn't help her take it out. Anyways its really starting to bug her and she wants it out. Its not the safest thing to do but she has already tried numbing and cutting it open with a small razor blade and no luck she says the skin is really thick. So what can she do to get this thing out? If she goes to a piercing shop can they most likely help her? Or is there any kind of specialty doctor that can take it out? She doesn't mind losing the piercing she just wants it out. 1. my lip piercing almost did that. when it felt funny i called my piercer and he said take it out and put the hoop in.

she needs to go see a piercer and do what ever he says, hes the pro.

  2. an experienced piercer would have given her a ring until it healed.

  3. Why did she wait so long? As soon as it started closing up, she should have seen a piercer. More than likely, she will have to have it cut out. She needs to see a piercer about it. They can safely scalpel it out.

This is not uncommon, but she needs to see her piercer ASAP before it gets worse.

    Good luck!

I'm editing this because I've been reading other answers.

A lot of piercers do use labret studs, depending on the location of the piercing. I was pierce by the woman who was the president of the APP at the time (Bethra Szumski). She used a labret stud. Come to think of it, I've never seen an initial lip piercing pierced with a ring, but I know that you can be pierce with both safely.

  4. Usually a doctor like a pediatrician or some other generic md can use a small precise insision to remove it. A proffessional peicer would never use a labret [ the jewlery with the flat disk] on the original piercing because jewelry like that increases rejection rate. If you go to a piercer to get it removed then dont go to the idiot who put it in there.
