"Liquigas and I are very close to an agreement", Vincenzo Nibali
Rumour has it that, Vincenzo Nibali is extending his contract with Team Liquigas-Cannondale is roaming through the cycling world.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported the news of Nibali staying with the Italian squad until 2014.
The 27-year-old started his professional hunt with Team Fassa Bortolo in 2005 and spent a period of two years with the side.
He joined the Italian squad, Team Liquigas in 2006 and has helped the team with several victories throughout his extensive career.
The Italian helped the side with a first place finish at the Vuelta a Espana 2010 and finished second during the most recent edition of the race.
He finished third during the 2010 version of the Italian Grand Tour and second during the most recent edition of the race.
The cyclist is currently enjoying the peak of his form and has already filled his bag with handful victories in the young season.
Nibali claimed the 5th stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico and also secured the point’s classification and the overall classifications at the race.
He finished 2nd overall at the Tour of Oman along with a stage 5 win to his credit.
Vincenzo finished 3rd at the Milan-San Remo and occupied the 2nd overall position during his most recent performance at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2012.
He currently holds the second overall position at the 2012 Elite Men UCI World Tour Rankings and has earned 272 points in the first quarter of the season.
Tom Boonen of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is holding the top spot with 366 UCI points while Samuel Sanchez is 20 points behind Nibali at the third position.
While commenting on the issue, he cited, "Liquigas and I are very close to an agreement".
"We still have to polish some details, but in terms of the length of the contract and the economics, I would say that we already have”.
“Seeing that it is a very important contract, before signing it I want to talk to my parents", Nibali concluded.
La Gazzetta dello Sport also reported that Nibali’s new contract worth up to 1.8 million Euros / annum.
The news paper also reported that Vincenzo was approached by both Team BMC and Team Astana but his he has decided to stay with Robert Amadio’s team.
