Valdano has expressed that there is no doubt that Messi is among the greatest footballers of all time, but conceded that Maradona had a different style of play than his compatriot.
The former Real Madrid general manager was full of appreciation for both his countrymen and shed light on how the two men contrast in their playing styles.
The Argentine stated that although the Barca number 10 is far more efficient as a footballer and holds the same position in the modern game as Maradona did back in the day, currently the latter can still be considered as better of the two.
He claimed that it was pure entertainment to watch Maradona play as his game was more beautiful and artistic.
However, Lionel Messi is no different and has sparked comparison with Maradona on more than one occasion.
As soon as the Barcelona star player gained prominence, he was continuously compared with the legendary Maradona.

"We judge Maradona based on his entire career, while Messi is still only 24. The fact that we're already comparing them is a tribute to what Lionel has achieved. If we have to differ between them, you can say that Maradona was more artistic and had a unique,
beautiful style of play.”
“Messi on the other hand is more efficient and more consistent. He's dangerous every time he gets the ball. If he continues to perform at this level, he will exceed everyone, including Pele."
