"May you hold?" -Incorrect

There's this kid in my office that says "may you hold?" to put them on hold.. is that grammatically correct?

  2. It is, but it makes you sound like a script reading prick! How about injecting a little personality into it, like, Would you mind holding for a few moments! Nothings personal anymore, theres no creativity, Theres right and theres friendly. Maybe I am just friendly!

  3. No, it is not correct.  "May" asks permission for the speaker, not the other person, to do something.  

    Better choices would be:

    -May I put you on hold?

    -Will you please hold?

  4. Only if he/she wants to know if the person has permission to hold or if there's a chance the person might hold.  Normally, however, the person wants to know if the other person is able to hold (i.e., can you hold?) or is willing to hold (will you hold?).
