"Mumbai Indians": How do you find this name?

I feel that one cannot keep a country's name for a city team. How can someone call themselves separately as Mumbai Indians?

It should have been Mumbai Mariners(Mumbai is an island city)

or Mumbai  Megastars,Mumbai  Speeders(life is pretty fast there)

What's wrong with the name dude?

I think its a gr8 name and like the guy who has answered above me its a very apt name for the kind of city Mumbai Indians....it describes that all types of indian cultures and traditions have been settled in mumbai and we celebrate every festival of all religions...so Mumbai Indians signifies the Indians of Mumbai

Yeah ..very strange. Should change the name into Mumbai Lions or Mumbai Jumbos or something.

i don't think so that it's a gud name cuz it's saying mumbai and indians too what fish i didn't find da name instead it shud have been "THE CHAMPS OF MUMBAI " OR "THE UNDEFEATABLES" OR something like dat in my opinion i hope i was of some help

i agree with you totally, it is not for indians only.

Physically people other than indians are there.I happened to be the commanding officer catering Army, Air force, & NAVY

Many guys of other countries were living.When there was a  strike of the MUMBAI, I TOOK OVER THE PORT ENTIRTELY,YOU CAN IMAGINE , SHIPS COMING THERE LIVING IN  MUMBAI  A MUST FOR BUSINESS.

KNOWING ALL THESE STATEMENTS TO SAY "MUMBAI INDIANS" IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG.ARE THERE NO INDIANS LIVING IN OTHER STATES OF INDIA?

It's a very poor name - it will make it harder for them to get fans outside India and the fans inside India have their OWN teams to go for..

As for The Kings XI, Super Kings, Royal Challangers, Rajasthan Royals - what happened to being ORIGINAL!!

I think "naam me kya rakha hain". Its da performances dat will matter............a rose would smell as sweet even if it was called hibiscus.........Anyways 4 glamour sake they could have chosen a better name to be more catchy........

Mumbai Indians is a good name and it's not their fault that the other teams didn't attach the word "India" to their names! As Mumbai is in India so why can't they call themselves Indians! By the way i'm not a Mumbai Indian Fan!

Well u have a valid point but the name "Mumbai Indians"...suggests that Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city with many cultures and various people settling here.

It's not just about the Maharashtrian people here we have Gujarathis, Punjabis, Muslims, Biharis etc

This shows that there is a feeling of Indianness in Mumbai...hence the name "Mumbai Indians".

Also as a matter of fact this is also to put light on the recent riots caused by MNS activists against the North Indians in Mumbai.

Now don't u feel so that this name is a fitting one describing Mumbai's cultural diversity and also gathering the non-maharashtrians in mumbai to back them rather than to their home town teams like Kolkata, Bangalore etc?
