Question:

"Now, woman, why without your veil?" (Robert Southey)?

Does any one of u sisters wear a veil (face cover)? I know that many sisters deem it unnecessary, as they contend that it has not been indicated in the Quran. Actually, I haven't seen a hadith either through which it can be undoubtedly substantiated that it's necessary.

I've always absorbed the logic of those scholars who observe that a girl's main attraction is her face. So, it has to be concealed (at least that's the best thing).

Is there any sound evidence from the Quran/authentic Hadiths? By an authentic hadith, I mean the one which comes from the Sahah Sittah (the 6 authentic books of hadith).

Just want to see what other possible arguments u can logically offer for and against the veil. Whether it's obligatory, or not? Even if it's not, it can't have any real disadvantages, can it?

(Not that I intend to give up my veil, or anything, 'cause whether it is incumbent upon me, or not, it certainly has it's benefits!)

  1. There is no possible " logical "arguments Against Hijab, but

" People are always going to be doing what they want no matter how much you try to interveen.

Even if you brought them the entire of heaven and all the prophets before them they still will never believe."

  2. I'm American and wear Niqab.  It's my choice to wear it and my husband's wish for me not to be stared at by Kaafur men and Kaafur women.  I believe Bukhari and Muslim to be strong Hadiths and the prophet(Salla Allahu alahi Wa Salaam) ordered us to follow the strong Hadiths. And the mother of belivers Aisha is NOT a liar. The strong Hadiths and Qur'an are for all times not just for the prophets(peace be upon them).

'A'isha radi Allah anha used to say: "When (the Verse): 'They should draw their veils over their necks and bosoms', was revealed, (the ladies) cut their waist sheets at the edges and covered their faces with the cut pieces."(Hadith-Shahi Bukhari 6:282)

A'isha radi Allahu anha narrated: "May Allah bestow His Mercy on the first Muharjirat (emigrants).  When  Allah revealed, '...and they should draw their Khumar over their Juyubihinna...', they (i.e. the women) tore their material and covered themselves  with it."(Shahih Bukhari) Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalanee, who is known as Ameer Al Mu'mineen in the field of Hadeedth said that the phrase, "covered themselves", in the above Hadith means that they covered their faces". [Fath al-Bari].

  3. sis Maryam, I believe that it's in Quran and sunnah to wear Hijab and cover the face.

Women are today without their hijab due to some reasons like:

1.they do not BELIEVE that it's in quran and sunnah to wear it, and this is the most abundant cause.

    or 2.WHAT DO PEOPLE SAY?

or 3.they have a problem of breathing.

    or 4.they copy their mothers.

or 5.they copy the tradition of their country, area or place they live in.

And the last cause is that they feel that they are BEAUTIFUL,

this is the most dangerous cause and these women are usually bad hearted and Fitna!

  4. A woman's awra, meaning something hidden or something which causes shame when exposed, consists of her entire body including her hair, yet excluding her face and hands. Some interpretations of certain hadiths have found that the feet are also part of a woman's awra, nevertheless this is debatable.

    You are asking whether or not the veil is necessary in Islam. My answer is no. The Qu'ran is VERY clear on the matter;

"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their zeenah (charms, or beauty and ornaments) except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof" (An-Nur 24:31).

The emphasis is in "...except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof". Although some have argued that this refers to the outergarments, others have argued that it refers to practicality.

"Ayesha (r) reported that Asma’ the daughter of Abu Bakr (r) came to the Messenger of Allah (s) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asma’! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." [Abu Dawud]

The issue of the veil is rather debatable since there are differing Qu'ranic exegeses used to ascertain its place in Islam. My advice would be to carry on wearing it if you already do, and not to feel obligated to wear it if you do not.
