Does anybody else think this is absolutely ridiculous?

I'm sorry .. but I do not see how being obese is child abuse .. most "obese" women aren't really that bad and most do things to control it .. eating healthier, exorcising, etc. Why does everyone make such a big deal out of it? I think it's the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

  1. With Federal weight guidelines, at 150 and being 5'3"... I was borderline obese. If I weren't pregnant right now, I would be considered obese, I'M 160!!!

I'm sorry but that article is bs. Women who smoke and drink do make that choice to s***w a child up... Most of those women who will admit to drinking while pregnant, when they did probably didn't know they were pregnant when they drank. And smoking... well, yeah.... Obese women... wtf! "Lifestyle choices", anyone else think they should tack on a couple hundred pounds to this guy and a sympathy belly. And this is why I can't stand some men. They just don't know how to keep their mouth shut. They day I see him squeezing something the size of a watermelon out of something the size of a lemon... Then I will talk to this idiot about "obese" women being pregnant.

That article seriously just disgusted me.

  2. Wow.  I can't.... wow.... that's just.... wow.  I'm literally speechless.

OK.  I've recovered.  That article was the most IGNORANT and INTOLERANT thing I have ever heard.  I was considered "obese" during all three of my pregnancies and none of my doctors (I had three) ever once mentioned that my weight was an issue in terms of my unborn child's health.  NOT ONCE!  (Mind you, I was 20 pounds over the "normal weight" prior to the pregnancies and was classified as obese, not overweight.  How absurd is that?!).  I never had gestational diabetes, I never had any breathing problems and all three of my children are the healthiest kids you've ever met.

And for goodness sakes, obesity has been linked to genetics.  The article suggests that these women simply sit around doing nothing but stuffing their face 24/7.  Because its just a well-known fact that if you're "fat", you're a lazy pig who has no self-esteem, self-worth nor self-control.  Right?  *note the sarcasm*  Stupid, stupid, stupid.  Fat people make bad parents.  We get it.  Thanks.  *note the sarcasm again*

  3. I agree with you, I think it is just something else for the government to try and control.

  4. That is just plain stupid. A woman of average height is considered obese long before she hits 200 lbs. A woman can classify as obese at size 12 if her body is proportioned in a certain way. That is the dumbest article I have read in a long time.

  5. Personally in child i do think it is abuse. A 7 year old boy should not weight 200 pounds. that just leads the child to health problems and that isn't right. parents need to control what there child eats

  6. Yeah, those people are crazy f*cks. It is ridiculous. Lots of overweight women have perfectly healthy babies every day. I'm 5'4 and 186 lbs, 6 1/2 months pregnant. I guess I would be considered "obese", because I've only gained like 2 lbs. in my pregnancy (now days they want someone who's 5'4" to weigh like 110-118 lbs--ridiculous!!). Yeah, they're just trying to pick on women who aren't little twigs, those bast*rd sons of b*tches..lol. But really, that's very unfair. I don't see them talking about disabled people having children together and "risking their child's health because they have a disability"? It's because people see the disabled as having no choice to be "normal" (which isn't always true) and see obese people as "oh, they did it to themselves" (which isn't always the case, either). Some people are just stupid.

  7. Disturbing.

  8. Rant rant rant,

Some women eat healthily and still gain way over the recommended during pregnancy. Some women may be obese when they conceived but lose weight during pregnancy due to just being pregnant. I agree a woman should look after herself as best as possible during pregnancy to assure the health and safety of her child, but as an overweight mum of 2 and pregnant with my third (I have PCOS and the weight gain is a side effect) neither of my kids are overweight or have any health problems, my baby which is due around Oct 2 is looking to be in the same shape as my two other beautiful children.

And anyone who is overweight does know it and doesn't need to be told. That is just like telling people they are ugly!!!

  9. Thats so dumb! Losing weight isnt easy, and a lot of women dont want to be obese, but are! Especially when you are poor and that is all you can afford: unhealthy foods are cheap! SO, either eat unhealthy or dont eat enough.... Hum... Im so tired of people who want to control other people. Its none of your buisness, if a woman is heavy or not, its no buisness of yours (MR AUTHOR OF ARTICLE) U try being a woman, everything goes to your hips|!

  10. As a nutrition consultant for 3 years, the mother of 6, and an 'obese' woman, I have this to say to this guy...

'ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!!!'

This guy is a nut case. Him relating your weight (something that you only have partial control of) with smoking or drinking (Something you have total control of) is ludicrous in the first place.

In the second place, unborn babies are parasites. They take their nutrients from the mother's body. to suggest that pregnancy is a good time to start a diet and exercise routine is insanity! First of all, it lowers the mother's immune system and ability to recover from childbirth. Let's not forget that this is the time in your life that is wonderful and a miracle, but it is also scary, since you really can die from it... Is this whack job really suggesting that this is the time to start limiting your caloric intake???

And let's start exercising? Is he joking? Risk miscarrying the baby so that you can meet someone else's goals as to what you should weigh? Phooey!

Yes, you should eat healthy foods. Lots and lots of raw foods. But if you gain more that 30 pounds when you're pregnant, so what? And if you're 'obese' when you start. so what? If you have health issues related to being obese, that's  a little different, but still not child abuse.

What would really be abuse is if the mother, following this idiot's theology, died, and the child had to be motherless. What is more abusive than that???

  11. Yeah, its ridiculous!!!! Yes, its a fact that obesity can cause problems to their unborn babies, but the truth is that MOST of the time that the babies are born healthy and sometimes healthier than a women of normal weight. That is the kind of garbage that comes out when these extremist start putting in there opinion, and they are the reason that If someone says you were abusing your child when  you were just spanking your child that you will go to jail and the child will get taken away from you. So, parents are scared to discipline there kids anymore and they grow up not respecting anyone. I knew a lady that raised her voice at her child to tell it to stop throwing a tantrum in the store and she got DHS called on her. It is dumb. What Ive read about it because I am an obese pregnant women myself is that an obese women is more likely to have a failed pregnancy or stillbirth(wich that worries me, but they don't really know why) And that her child will have a higher chance of obesity itself. But like I said, MAY, have a chance. And I haven't gained a single poind since ive been pregnant because I eat healthy and I walk. And thats saying that I care for my baby and its well being. As so does every mother to be out there that does and feels the same.

  12. I think it's ridiculous too!  I haven't ever heard of such a thing either... Crazy.

  13. That guy is a MORON.  I agree with you that the "guidelines"  (the BMI BULLCRAP!!) are ridiculous.  I was a competitive swimmer and water polo player for 5 years; in that time I was strong but still voluptuous, and was very healthy at a size 9.  Would you believe the d**n BMI said I was overweight?!!   I was so ticked off!  Muscle is heavier by volume than fat!!

And regarding what the author said about eating badly, not all skinny people have good diets!!  I know MANY slender people who never exercise, smoke, drink excessively, and whose diets are largely made up of McDonaldsa and other highly processed foods!!  Thanks, but I'll stick with my "obese" figure....LOL

  14. well, i see what he's getting at. but, if we're now going to start suggesting that certain groups of pregnant ladies get counseling upon becoming pregnant- it certainly cant end with obese women. so that kind of ridiculous right there.

in a perfect world, everyone should care about their own health enough to begin with, in my experience- becoming pregnant does little to get someone to make long lasting, permanent changes with themselves, people are always going to do what they really want to do in the first place

  15. That's crazy.

How about women who diet during pregnancy? Isn't that worse? I know someone like that....it's awful.

  16. Once again a man (the author of the article) trying to put women in the hotseat for all the ills in society.  Pathetic.

Being super thin, size 0, poses as much risk to the feutus but no the author probably likes the skeletal look.  lmao.

Ignore it - another opinion that is worthless.

ETA : meppa30 - Good comments, loving it, but that wil be the next thing - after heavier women he been made to hide indoors the government will only let the beatiful people marry and have kids...  Oh I can see it now - what a wonderful world that would be...lmao..NOT.  Perhaps he would like all these "obese women" to get put in big camps away from society where they can't breed and infect the beutiful people.  Oh hang on...

  17. MOST people are obese due to poor choices, eating too much burger king and not exercising. and it is very unhealthy to the unborn child.

this is talking obese, not over weight, not fat. there is a difference. A person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more above normal weight. thats alot.  so yeah, i think it is child abuse.

I also think it is child abuse to allow your child to become obese.
