Question:

"Owns a j*p bike because he/she could not afford a real Harley"???

Do the people who post this in thier answers actually believe this? I have seen this in a good number of posts and always questioned the logic used. I am not a fan of Harley for my own reasons but I know people choose thier own bikes for thier own reasons and accept it for what it is. For me a bike is a toy and should be fun to ride with good to great performance hence why I choose sportbikes, Honda specifically since I have had good luck with them over the years without anything ever breaking.

I just want to see what others on here think of that logic and if anyone who posts something so foolish could please explain to me why they would think this.

  1. "I am not a fan of Harley for my own reasons but I know people choose their (corrected spelling) own bikes for their (corrected spelling) own reasons and accept it for what it is".

Enough said.....Why did you need to post this question?

For me, a bike is a means of relaxation and should be comfortable to ride. Hence, I choose cruisers, Harley, specifically, since I have had good luck with them over the years without anything ever breaking.

  2. I would have to say they post it in response to cruisers, not sport bikes. Two completely different rides. If you are buying a Japanese cruiser, there is a good chance (not everyone) it is because it cost a lot less than a Harley and they like the looks of the Harley.  Ironically, people who can afford multiple bikes generally buy a Harley (for the name)and ride it for a while, then they buy a Honda and leave the Harley parked because the Honda is a much nicer bike to ride.

Personally, I own a Rode Glide and love it. I use it to commute. I also own an older Yamaha that I ride for fun. I have had a few Harleys and even more imports, and love my Harley the most (even though it is not the best bike). I like the image associated with the Harley Davidson. I choose to ride my dresser when I go riding with my sport bike buddies. That is why my running boards are ground down and primary cover is scratched up.

  3. I am a 100% HD man, but It doesn't matter to what you ride. For some reason some people think they will be accepted quicker if they say something like this. I would accept them a lot quicker if they acted normal. Don't try to impress me ( I'm told old for that, been there done that), just be a good person & don't make up any excuses. By the way, Mushki, I've read a lot of your HD bashing and people like you could make somebody like me dislike you and j*p bikes. I'm not quite there yet.

  4. You will usually find this quote you speak of in direct response to "sport bike" riders attempting to bash Harley riders.  On here I hardly ever see Harley riders wasting 5 points questioning sport bikes or their riders.......but I always see sport bike riders questioning and trying to bash Harley riders.

"Owns a j*p bike because he/she could not afford a real Harley"......... I could say the same for the quote......"Why would anyone want a no performance Harley that leaks oil and constantly needs maintenance".  I own a HD Road King and it has never leaked anything or needed repair other than basic maintenance like oil changes and such.  And as far as performance ?  Last time I checked, a public roadway is not a race track....so why would I worry about going at tremendous speeds.....I ride to cruise and enjoy.

  5. Many HD riders are good guys. EVERYONE with any pride is proud of their ride. I speak to any that will speak. I ride a Shadow and have been told it is a good looking "Harley". I correct them quickly and thank them for the compliment. Harley riders are proud of their bikes and with a good right. I think they're great looking and sound wonderful. To make a statement would be that they are the Cadillac of bikes. Those guys have nice rides and know it. They ride everywhere and for the most part are real friendly. Those that aren't I just walk away. Take the leather and helmet off a biker and he is usually just an ordinary guy like you and me. We all like to be noticed out there and our bikes show our personality and individuality.

  6. I've had all kinds of bikes.  I have liked each of them for what they were.  Most of them I did not have to repair as much as the harleys I have owned.

  7. Motorcycles these days are becomming less of a "toy" and becoming almost a primary mode of transportation for people who are looking to save on gas costs.

You will be seeing alot more people shopping more carefully for motorcycles and paying more attention to price, value and overall quality of the bike more than what brand it is. Just because it is an American brand means it is the best bike for the buck.

Alot of the Harley Davidson owner community seems to segregate themselves from other motorcylists riding metric bikes and even from fellow HD owners riding 883s.

They also think they are the "standard" of what a biker should be and you pretty much have to laugh it off and not pay attention to them.  There is no logic.

  8. I've owned a bunch of bikes over the years, both dirt and street. They all have there niche in the world. I have ridden many miles on the street and though that the bike that had a higher frequency vibrations tired me out faster and made my butt numb after a long ride. I am no longer looking to crave the heck out of the canyons and at a point in my life I want to slow down and enjoy the sights at normal speed. I how own a Harley and I am about to buy another one. Low frequency vibrations don't kill your body. Also at this point in my life I can afford them and they don't loose there value like the Japanese bikes. I also belong to the to the Harley Owners Group and they plan some great rides and events.

  9. Harley people live/die Harley Davidson.

the rest of us enjoy Japanese bikes for there better gas milage, better track times, and the ability to NOT have to work on them every time we want to go for a ride

  10. There are a limited number of things Harley guy can say to justify his ride.  This is one of the few.   Considering  that anyone can easily get a loan for one really makes it a stupid statement.

The harley guys with any intelligence are just into their bikes for what they are and have nothing to prove to anyone else.  But the Koolaid drinkers, fan-boys and noobs who thought they were paying top dollar for the bestest bike need the Harley to be superior to all.  Kind of fun to watch them flounder, but sometimes it feels like you are arguing with a r****d.

  11. I once owned a HD

Now I own a Japanese bike

When I owned a HD I was afraid to ride it more than 2 or 3 miles from home cause it would break down.

I had no dealer support from HD, they  said I was dumb enough to buy it.

  12. I a ride a wing. It works  well at what I like to do.

  13. Why worry about it. I ride what I do If others do not like it I do not care, if someone calls it a copy  so whay. Had I had different means I would  have bought something else at the time. I enjoy riding motorcycles that is why I do not to seek acceptance from anyone.
