Are you tired of being grouped with people with whom you don't neccessarily agree? I am. As a woman, I am tired of being expected to have the same opinions as "people of color." Maybe I do, maybe I don't, but I resent the implication that "as a woman" I belong to a particular voting group.

So, women, do you like it being assumed that you are for Obama because you're female? Or because women supposedly automatically do what Oprah Winfrey says?

  1. You might be taking things to an extreme.  Try not following political news and the media so closely.  Take a step back.  While you are allowed to be different, you can't expect them to know that.  No one is a mind reader.

I am concerned that my views and needs might not be addressed, but that is part of the risk of a democracy.  If you aren't part of the majority, then it might just be tough.  The alternative is to be ruled by the few.  Learn to voice yourself.  You might be a future leader.

  2. Nobody likes to be put in a group and generalized. There will always be people who have opinions that differ in some way from the main idea of the group with which they are associated. That's human nature for ya though, so there isn't a whole lot anybody can do to change it.

With the stereotyping though comes the alternate mindset of "Yes, many women vote _____, but many women also support _____" because honestly, how can anybody categorize people by their political affiliation. From my experiences, many are swayed by the opinions of those around them so much that who knows when they're lying or when they're telling the truth about what the really think. Also, who knows what their opinions are based on, right?

So. Yes, I'm tired of people categorizing other people, but it's a tragic flaw of human nature that really can't be changed. The only thing I can say is, if somebody tells you "I guess you're voting for Obama, huh?" make sure you nip 'em in the rear and tell them what you said here cause it's good.

    "I resent the .... group"
