http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 has claimed that the head-coach of Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, has a much more crucial role to play at the club than the player himself.
Messi has expressed his view regarding his manager and stated that the Spanish mentor’s importance at the great club overtakes his own.
Even though it is widely believed that the Barca wonder boy has been the real reason behind all the success that has come to the way of the Spanish giants, Messi himself believes otherwise.
According to the 24-year-old, the manager is more important to a club than its players. He added that Guardiola’s role at the Nou Camp has been phenomenal.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner heaped praise over his head-coach and admired his philosophy which he has undertaken while managing the UEFA Champions League title holders.
While expressing his desire to watch the 42-year-old stay at the club in the foreseeable future, the Argentine international remarked that it is due to the genius of Pep, that Barcelona have achieved all that they have in recent years.
The Spaniard was made in charge of affairs at the Catalan giants in 2008 and has led the club to great success under his reign.
Barcelona have contested 16 competitions under the Catalan trainer and have managed to triumph over 13.
These outstanding results have been achieved due to several factors and Messi believes that the club’s manager is the most important one.
However, even though he has achieved almost everything while being at the helm of La Blaugrana, there is uncertainty regarding the manager’s future at the Nou Camp.
As his current contract with Barca expires with the end of the current season, there is speculation that he may opt for a move away from the Catalan capital.
While talking to reporters, Messi was quoted as saying:
"It would be difficult to find a replacement. Barcelona have [had] four years of playing well for him. For me, he is more important than I am at Barcelona. We want him to continue with us for the good of us all, first for us, and then for the club."
"The club will continue and we would too, but it would be very different without Guardiola."
