Question:

"Pure" Guamanians - Guam???

Everything I have seen, heard and read about Guam says that there are no longer any pure-blooded Guamanians any more because Guam has been taken over many times (Spain, Japan) and the pure Guamanians have been killed off or mixed with non-Guamanian people.

Is it true that there are no pure-blooded Guamanians?

Please provide your source.

Thank you.

  1. it is true. before all the occupations and wars, there were about 30,000 pure chamorros on guam. but when missionaries and conquistadors from spain came, they started killing off the chamorros. soon there were only about 4,000 chamorros left. now this is during the time of the 1600s. so the spanish started marrying and getting with local chamorro women and started the spanish blood. nowadays when you ask someone from guam what their last name is, it is most likely to be a spanish name. very few families have a true chamorro last name. and the same goes for when the japanese and americans came. there are some japanese and american mixed families. but the spanish have greatly influenced guam to the language and blood line.
