This is Mrs. Takata's diary compiled by her daughter in 1982. It's also know as The Gray Book. I cannot find it listed in the Library of Congress, nor can I find a copy of it to purchase. I've found excerpts from the diary on numerous websites and books. Can I directly quote from the diary, and if not, how would I go about contacting the daughter to ask permission to do so?

  1. You would directly have to ask the person that published the book.  Anytime an article or book is published in a public areana then it is automatically copyrighted.  People will then go to the Library of Congress to get further Copyrighting if needed for large publications.

Most people will say "Yes" to you briefly quoting their material, due to it being an advertising for their publication.
